IOM's Role in Japan
- To strengthen cooperation with Japan concerning humanitarian and reconstruction assistance and peace-building world-wide
- To assist Japan in meeting migration challenges
- Direct assistance for vulnerable migrants and refugees (resettlement assistance, voluntary return and reintegration assistance to the victims of trafficking found in Japan, support programme to facilitate school education for foreign children, assistance for stranded migrants, etc.)
- To encourages dialoge on migrant integration in Japan
- To provide information on world migration trend to Japan and promote Japan's international cooperation on migration issues
- To provide trainings and technical assistance to immigration officials, NGOs and migran caseworkers
IOM has been providing expert advice for various migration policy initiatives led by politicians, business community and experts in Japan. IOM also encourages dialogue on migrant integration in Japan by co-organizing annual symposia with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and organizing other events in cooperation with research institutes, international organizations, embassies, local governments, NGOs, etc.
